Kirana Yoga believes that yoga is for everyone. Despite age, flexibility or experience, practice can result in improved mental and emotional well-being, better physical health and can help create a more balanced lifestyle in today’s busy world.

About Catriona

Catriona’s passion for yoga was first ignited during a trip to India in 2009 where she realised that yoga allowed for tranquility and respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

On returning to Glasgow, Catriona discovered Vinyasa Flow Yoga and continued learning through taught classes. She established her own regular self practice regime and found that this helped calm her body and mind after busy days at work.

She then wished to develop her practice further and share her love of yoga with others. In 2013, Catriona embarked on a 2 month intensive Hatha Yoga course in Koh Phangan, Thailand.

Following this she spent several weeks in an Indian ashram studying meditation and Sivananda style Yoga before going on to complete her teacher training in Ashtanga/ Vinyasa Flow in Goa, India.

Catriona has also completed courses in Iyengar and Yin Yoga which has given her a great passion and respect for all types of yoga. This is reflected in Catriona’s teaching style which, although has it’s roots in Vinyasa Flow, fuses aspects of various yoga traditions.

Catriona has a particular interest in working with individuals who, due to social, economic or cultural barriers may not have had the opportunitiy to practice yoga. She teaches a wide range of individuals and has worked with various charities and organisations across Scotland.

In 2014, Catriona completed the Rainbow Kids and Family Yoga teacher training in Edinburgh. She has also attended specialist training on yoga anatomy, meditation and pranayama. These aspects of yoga practice greatly help those experiencing difficulties in their lives.

Yoga With Young People and Families

Catriona is a qualified Rainbow Kids and Family Yoga Teacher. Kids Yoga classes focus on helping children develop important life skills in a supportive, non-competitive and, most importantly, fun environment.

With kids yoga we interweave stories, music, songs, games and poses, creating an experience which helps children build strength, coordination and balance as well as body awareness, empathy, self confidence, communication and relaxation skills. Family yoga is also a great way for parents and children to bond and work together.

Teenagers can benefit greatly from classes which combine partner yoga, acro yoga, music and dance as well as traditional yoga postures. Fantastic for helping build confidence, trust, focus and concentration.

Catriona aims to provide and develop more opportunities for members of communities who, due to social, cultural or financial barriers, may not have had the chance to experience the positives associated with yoga. As well as being a Yoga Teacher, Catriona has vast experience working alongside a range of vulnerable groups through charities and social services.

She has taught young people and adults with physical and learning disabilities as well as those experiencing mental health difficulties. She has worked with NHS, Local Authority and charity staff and service users and is keen to develop further partnerships with community groups and organisations.

Catriona is passionate about this line of work and prides herself on offering a safe, supportive and enjoyable learning environment. She believes yoga can help equip individuals from all backgrounds with skills to better deal with stress, improving general health and well-being.

Kirana Yoga - Adult General Classes

Adult General Classes

Catriona offers a regular drop-in class and one-to-one sessions for those who wish to learn more and experience the benefits first hand. Her flow sequences encourage students to connect with their breath and help balance mind and body.

These sequences are energetic but calming and help tone and strengthen the body whilst improving mental concentration and focus. Classes fuse all aspects of yoga, from the physical postures to meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques) and philosophy.

Catriona takes pride in creating a warm and welcoming environment for all students, particularly beginners, encouraging them to take their practice at their own pace and listen to their body. Ultimately, yoga can result in a more positive, happy and fulfilling lifestyle!
